![]() She was my first child, and I felt the intense pain and the intense joy that all mothers feel, but yes, there were the added feelings of knowing this was a black child, and they were powerful indeed. My second husband was black, and this was his baby. I felt good about what I was doing, I felt it was right to marry a blackman and make black babies . . . In the end I cried in joy
